The amp/drive-modeling blocks have two dedicated algorithms for each amp/drive type, designed for live playing and direct recording. The CABINET effect simulates amp and mic recording characteristics as well, and the algorithm is automatically switched according to the CABINET on/off setting.This lets you bring the same guitar sound that you used during practice or recording right on to the stage. At one gig my amp died and I plugged it straight in the board- I still missed my amp, but the unit performed admirably and the crowd didn't even seem to notice. Build is solid, tubes work as exciters mostly - no high voltage plate distortion, but they do help bring some life back into the digital signal. If you play a solid state amp you will really like the tubes even when the unit is "bypassed", because this thing does not have a true bypass. your signal goes tru alot of analog stuff no matter what and it obviously flavors your sound. The bypass only bypasses the digital processer, so you still have a solid state/tube blendable preamp and a tube exciter/booster, two volume pedals and a master volume knob. Which is why I do not like this unit with my tube amps, in bypass mode. I get a muddier sound on my clean analog tone. I my oppinion the lack of an actuall bypass is a major failure on Zoom's part.
