The included Pastry Cutter cuts the pastry tops and bases toperfectly fit into the pie molds. Smaller end of the cutter for the pie top, larger end of the cutter for the pie base while the included Pastry Press assists in pressing down the pastry base into the mold. They did not purchase it at Amazon, instead it was purchased at william and sonoma. It costs up to three times as much at william and sonoma. Let me just say - this is a great little machine. Especially if you enjoy pie and want to eat a small amount of it. It works well with store bought refrigerated dough but you can easily make your own. It takes about ten minutes (after you prepare the filling) to make four mini shepard pies. Really, you can't beat it! Its about the size of a pannini maker so it does not take up much space. It comes with a dough cutter and a fitter for the dough as well as several great ideas for pie to get you started. Now the whole family can get exactly the type of pie they want without having all the extra go to waste.Because I am watching my weight I attempted to make a egg and vegtable pie sans crust. I also made my own and it also worked fine with no cracking. I make mini quiches. My biggest issue is the crust edges are overdone and dark brown, boarder line burnt. The rest cooks well and tastes great! You must work fast when you put your pie together. Even though I have an issue with the outer crust, I still love it because it is simple and quick. It just takes a few rounds of trial. Also, I put my items in this order: crust, solid fillings then liquid. (They tell you this in the instructions)They recommend using puff pastry. I don't want a puff pastry tart. I wanted a pie. Thats why I got this thing. Tried to use my never fail pie crust in this thing. what a mistake.It is hard enough to get a tender crust off of the counter and into a pie pan but try doing it four times! Then when you press the pie dough down into the bottom of the molds with the supplied press attachment, the dough will crack or tear every time. Then when the pie does get cooked it is very delicate and near impossible to get out of the molds without breaking or tearing the crust and losing the filling all over the place. I would not recommend this product to anybody except my enemies. I was tempted to throw the entire unit half way across my back yard after attempting to use it following the instructions exactly.
