Rosin is an important aspect of playing the violin, as different quality rosins will alter the sound and ease of play. I purchased a violin online on a whim, that because it was so inexpensive if I give up well, at least I have something pretty to look at. With that in mind, my cheap violin came with even cheaper worthless rosin. It was hard as a rock, and I had to score the crap out of it just to get dust to go on my bow, and it would play for just a few strokes, then I had to vigorously reapply. I found this rosin at a music store and bought it. One easy application and I was FINALY making real violin noises. So for a newby that doesn't know all the details yet, this saved me. If it weren't for this rosin I might have just completely given up. I'm sure it's probably worthwhile to purchase an even higher grade rosin if you're an advanced violinist, but for anyone at the beginner or intermediate stage, this will work very well. |
